From black and whites of the past to today’s digital color photos, the pictures tell touching stories of the faculty in the field of special education. Looking back, the provincial government of Taiwan initiated a research project for mental disabled children’s education in 1968 and entrusted Taipei Teacher’s College (today’s National Taipei University of Education) to conduct teacher training courses for the teaching of the mental disabled children. This is the first step of this type of teacher training in the history of Taiwan. Professors Qi-Pu Xia, Hong-Xiang Liu, and Li Lu, etc. launched the field of mental disabled education in the Taiwan area and this project has continued for thirty some years since then, provided with nearly 3000 special     education teachers. (Mental Disabled Children’s Education Program was founded in 1972, Center for Special Education was founded in 1980, and the Mental Disabled Children’s Education Program was established within the Department of Elementary Education.
